[D5, EA, Open] The Main Event Viewing

Post by Cearnach » Fri Sep 17, 2021 4:59 am

A set of stands having been erected overlooking the lists, the great and good of the people of England are slowly filling them. On the ground nearer the action, some who are not of noble blood, servants of the mighty and various townspeople, even a monk or two, are gathering into a small throng. The smell of horses and their excretions has risen on the air, and one can see that even the notoriously tough Emma of Anjou has resorted to a nosegay to stave off discomfort. In spite of this, anticipation is building for the display of modern knighthood, and the thrum of a hundred conversations wraps itself around the scene, dulling the senses in its pulse.

This thread is for observation of the Joust and plotting, scheming, and witty repartee. Enjoy yourselves!
Gm * Man of Angles * Sionnach * Scealai *

Every phrase and every sentence is an end and a beginning,/Every poem an epitaph. And any action/Is a step to the block, to the fire, down the sea's throat/Or to an illegible stone: and that is where we start.
We die with the dying:/See, they depart, and we go with them./We are born with the dead:/See, they return, and bring us with them./The moment of the rose and the moment of the yew-tree/Are of equal duration. A people without history/Is not redeemed from time, for history is a pattern/Of timeless moments. So, while the light fails/On a winter's afternoon, in a secluded chapel/History is now and England
--Eliot, Little Gidding

Heedless of the mud, aside from a small concession of changing out of his finer court clothes, Giles sat as close to the lists as he could reasonably get. There was likely no malice in the hearts of those who competed today, although after yesterday's incident at the showing of Helms, Giles was taking nothing for granted, and besides, even if there was no intended injuries, accidents did still happen.

He clutched his satchel of medical supplies and waited, hoping against hope that he wouldn't be needed.

Robert de Beaumont, with his usual charming lack of smile or warmth is in the stands to observe the day's great bouts. He's pleased with his grandsons performance, up until the young man seems so distressed. With a roll of his eyes he stands and bellows at Giles, "Get on with it de Braose! See to that noble competitor!"

Margaret sits beside Father, his coldness countered by her warm smile and quick laugh. She cheers the knights on. Seeing Simon smash his opponent, her hands fly to her mouth and at his cry she begins making her way to the field.

These menfolk would just be lost to the most minor of incidents, were it not for her lady’s touch.

With Giles hot on her heels the two medics headed out into the mud.
