Re: [D3 LA] Catch of the Day
Refreshments would be available and dinner as well. Geoffrey was appreciative of his friend and he'd cover any high expense for the evening. Usually it would just be expected that friends would trade turns providing for each other, but Reginald did not get to Brittany more than his visit to work on the chateau's chapel window.
"Does Lady Matilda intend to take up this particular art? Telling the stories of God's word, backlit by his brightness, in his most beautiful of houses?" he asks with curiosity. He playfully asked, "Reginald... are you taking students?"
For Nichole, who had thawed and seemed much more at ease now, he sat next to her. There was no suggestive imagery in his words anymore. He would wait until she felt comfortable enough to speak with any suggestiveness before he returned to form himself.
But he would be quite playful. In particular, he knew where Reginald kept a box of multicolored shards that were more for showing colors to patrons. But Geoffrey just played with them when he visited. Passing them in front of lantern or lamp light in pairs of different colors to produce mixed light from the other side against a flat surface.

Matilda laughs. "No, Lord Tournemine, I think not, with apologies to Reginald." She bowed her head in his direction. "But I was reading some of the works of Boethius the other day, and this light and the way it can bend were very important to him. It is interesting to see it at work, here."
Nichole watches the interplay of colors with a certain feline quality to her movements, at one point just stopping herself from passing her hand through a stream of brilliant green light.

Every phrase and every sentence is an end and a beginning,/Every poem an epitaph. And any action/Is a step to the block, to the fire, down the sea's throat/Or to an illegible stone: and that is where we start.
We die with the dying:/See, they depart, and we go with them./We are born with the dead:/See, they return, and bring us with them./The moment of the rose and the moment of the yew-tree/Are of equal duration. A people without history/Is not redeemed from time, for history is a pattern/Of timeless moments. So, while the light fails/On a winter's afternoon, in a secluded chapel/History is now and England --Eliot, Little Gidding

The servants began bringing small plates of different foods. They were common to the islands, but of decent quality. Likely not what the two girls were used to for quality, but definitely still nice and better than the servants ate at home by a lot. The disparity between lifestyles however were easily ignored through conversation. Reginald happily answered any questions the girls had about the churches he's worked in, from London to Paris, all across the countryside, including Geoffrey's own chateau chapel. Which apparently was a bust representation of the Virgin Mary holding the baby Jesus.
Waiting for a moment when Matilda was busy hearing about all the pieces Reginal had done, he speaks quietly with Nichole. "I am enjoying your company Lady Nichole. I find my smile is unbound when you explore the colored lights. Your fascination inspires my own. Do you have a favorite color from among these shards?"

"This deep green is most surprising, Tournemine. One would almost think it a solid thing--a light that is dark in color. Marvelous."

"Then I will need to speak with him about something green in the future," he replied with a smile. "I am glad that you are enjoying your time here. I know that I was quite taken with his home the first time I visited. And it's still lovely each time I get the chance to return, one thing or another being new."

"Originally, we met when both of us were younger men. He was coming into his own out of apprenticeship and I was being knighted. We happened to be celebrating at the same tavern. But I remembered his name when it came time to refit my chapel and ever since then we've been friends. I visit him whenever I am in town and he has vacationed in Crahen twice, but he keeps too busy for frequent trips."
He has a sense of warmness at the story.

"It is well to keep close with one's friends. I still write, from time to time, with girls that are now married. Though less frequently than we did before. New worlds, and all that."

"I do try my best. It helps that I love visiting the city so I can often make excuses. I've got a few friends here, but when I was thinking of interesting places to bring you and your sister, this was the first that came to mind. A unique experience, and I envy you are getting to see it for the first time," he says with a smile.

"It is a fine gift, Tournemine," she decides. "I shall have to consider how best to repay it."

He smiles at her. "You will never need to thank me for such. Your presence is thanks enough and inspires me to generosity."

"As well it should, Tournemine. I don't look like this just for my self-esteem, you know." She tosses her hair. "But are you certain a good turn does not deserve another?"

"That was a lovely turn just now, Lady Nichole," he says smirking at the hair flip. "More than generous."
