[D3 EM] Dawn Garden

Post by Geoffrey of Tournemine » Sun Sep 12, 2021 8:52 pm

Entering the gardens, walking between covered alcoves in the morning, getting in a brisk walk, Geoffrey takes in the sights of the garden in the rain. He had a hooded cloak on to protect from the rain.

He did love these gardens. He'd was strongly considering trying to find the money to have one just as nice put in at his chateau. It would be quite an undertaking though.

He thought on that as he strolled.

Beneath one of the alcoves stood a young woman, clearly enjoying the way that the rain drippled down over the flower and a bit lost in thoughts , well dressed and with some jewelery , uncovered head and her dress being trumpeted in the french style.
Her hair while being uncovered is set up in a simple braid.

Noticing immediately her skin tone and features, he smiles to himself. This one is definitely not from around here. Foreign beauty indeed.

He smiles pleasantly, as he approaches and bows. "A lovely London morning to you milady. Enjoying the rain?"

Noticing the flowers that she is looking at, noting that particular group was mostly irises, he smirked. "Color or petals?"

"A bit, but then one can hardly escape rain among the english landscape after all" she says as she offers a courtesy in return. "Thinking about the color of the petals for a moment , and the rarity of it among the creatures that god set uppon the land, unlike other flowers bloom."

"Striking, vibrant and rare. Perhaps that is why it's so popular among royalty of so many lands. The rarest of beauty tends to attract and inspire and it is not only the irises that catch my eye." He looks to Miriam, and like that it seems the vision of irises is replaced by olive and crimson.

"Forgive my manners. I am Baron Geoffrey of Crahen, of the house Tournemine. It is my great pleasure to have you steal my attentions from the irises."

Ooh, that sounds Jewish. When did I last see Rebecca?

"Then I will certainly need to keep my eye on you further. Someone so capable and beautiful deserves to be at the center of attention, and not just in the notes, Lady Miriam."

His eyes were drawn to the place where a smile only gave hints.

"Would you mind if I joined you in the alcove to escape that rain?" he asks, eyes sparkling.

"Far from me to shove you into the water, " she says with a nod and gives him some space . " And I did not yet show you my capabilitys, but then might I require what languages you speak? "

He stepped in and removed the cloak he was wearing, setting it aside as he speaks. It's easier to see where his confidence comes from. A man such as him likely was only ever rebuffed out of a lady's sense of propriety. And even then, probably not often. Some sins were worth asking forgiveness.

" Only those in which I am read. French, Latin and Occitan. I expect, however, that I am about to be thoroughly impressed."

His accent becomes much more defined, and was somewhat musical if rustic, as he flows between his languages, and easier for her to hear. His command of each was not scholarly mastery, but he spoke them all as well as one might expect from someone tutored from a young age.

Up close she likewise draws to mind all those tempting ideas of the harlot queen, the woman that would be preached against , even if the preache themself would be tempted by hellfire and damnation to see her dance with them.

" Clearly more then that which is often assumed"
"Well used for you tongue there at court." "Even if I am a bit more bookish in such manners " and well traveled" She says with a courtesy as she finished her sentence , clearly a bit more used to reading then speaking the later two languages , but it not being unfamiliar to her with the soft up and down of someone that knows them well enough ."

"One of those sounded like Greek. I've heard it here in the courts of London on rare occasion and it sounded much like that. The other I am entirely unfamiliar with. You have an impressively talented command of your tongue Lady Miriam. And as I suspected I would be, I am thoroughly impressed," he replied with a smile.

"If I might ask, what did you say in the two languages I did not understand?"

"That is because most minstrels cater to the men of limited tastes," he says with a shrug. "Mother shared with me the stories of Matilda of Canossa, Sichelgaita of Salerno and Isabel of Conches. All of which should be standard lessons so that fewer men doubt the conviction a woman can hold. And all women that inspire me. Songs of damsels in minstrel's tales do not do justice to the truth of the world. They reflect ideals of people that would say no... and yes is the answer I tend to prefer."

He recalled the story of the burning of a synagogue from his youth. He never understood why his tutor enjoyed it or the crusaders sang. It was cruelty, plain and simple. If anything would drive him to fight alongside his fellow Christians by his own volition it would be to ensure Merciful treatment. She could see him chewing on her words.

"Those crusaders failed God in their lack of Mercy. Too many stories of unnecessary cruelty from that time. Many were proud of their successes, when they should have been shamed by their failings. A person, no matter their faith, us still a person. We all believe in a single almighty creator, even if we cannot agree on the best way to serve him. Hatred serves no one but the selfish."

She nods. " I do would prefer that it does not end like it did historically for my people during the first of the crusades." she says a bit remiscent.

"Mine hands are ill suited to hand someone nails, and yet all to often people blame me for thus. But then , if it was not part of a plan to do so , how could he have died to carry sins, as Bernard of Clairvaux said , For us the Jews are Scripture's living words, because they remind us of what Our Lord suffered. They are not to be persecuted, killed, or even put to flight., or Sicut Judaeis affrimed by the current pope or St Augustine. "

He nods his agreement. "The truly sad thing is that those bulls were needed at all. I am glad for them, and hope that all christians respect and follow them. But we should not need be told that it is wrong, and that many of us need be is disheartening," he admits.

"I f only the ability to learn and grow were as common," he says with a slight grimace. "I must admit that I have no Jewish families within Crehen. I would personally lay the stones for a synagogue if even one family showed interest, but it is not a large community so we don't attract many immigrants."
