[D10, EM-?, EVENT] Whoso List to Hunt...
Posted: Sun Oct 03, 2021 2:27 pm
The wide forests to the south of the Thames have beckoned the courageous and bold men of England and France to the hunt. A famous noble pastime, the Hunt has claimed its share of lives from accident, misadventure, and murder. Fortunately, there is little reason to expect such tragedy here today, as the best and brightest of two kingdoms saddle up and sound the horns.
This is an event for individual hunters in 3 Stages. It lasts from dawn until dusk (LE), or until the Great Bear is found and killed.
Time: The Hunting event exists in segments. There are 2 segments for each timeslot. That's 12 segments in all.
Procedure: A tracker will be posted in the OOC Forum to help people keep track of their position in the hunt. You may attempt both the Search and Chase stages once per segment. Players may roll individually or, with another character's consent, they may Follow another hunter. These characters will not receive any glory for having tracked the bear, and will not make any Hunting rolls. However, they will be on hand to help kill it.
Stage One: The Search
Finding game is not difficult in these wild forests — it is a matter of finding the right prey. Each character should make a Hunting roll before starting the first hunting segment to see if his dogs can find a trail.
Fortunately, the King's huntmaster knows the marks of the bear well and is able to point out a good spoor to start the trail: everyone receives a +5
modifier to Hunting skill for this initial roll.
Stage Two: The Chase
Players who have succeeded in Stage One may make a Hunting roll opposed by the Bear's Avoidance of 7 to pursue the bear in Stage Two. Characters from Surrey receive a +5 modifier to these rolls for home-field advantage. Once you qualify for this Stage, you need not repeat Stage One.
Each Hunting roll has the following consequences:
Critical Success: You move ahead 2 ranks on the tracker.
Success: You move ahead 1 rank on the tracker
Partial success: You do not move on the tracker
Failure: You fall behind 1 rank on the tracker. Worse, you have encountered an Obstacle! Your post will be edited (in red) with the obstacle you encounter and its consequences.
Fumble: You have lost the trail! Lose 2 ranks on the tracker and roll again on Stage One.
Stage Three: The Kill
Once hunter(s) have reached the topmost rank in the tracker, they have caught up with the bear(!), they should report to this scene pronto to resolve the action!
