William de Braose to Giles de Braose

Post by William de Braose » Sat Aug 28, 2021 3:45 pm

Brother,

Things got a little weird in Normandy, and I have a feeling that Westminster's not going to be any different. I hate to expose you to danger, but there's gonna be a shake-up, Church, State---Heavens for all I know. Anyway, you'd better come down. It'll be a tightrope, and I have a feeling I'm going to need someone watching my back. Plus, there's some opportunity coming through for them as know whom to do favors for, and I have a feeling you might see a situation you might be able to snatch up.

Your brother, Will.

WIlliam the younger, Heir of the de Braose,

It is a blessing to hear from you, even if the news is disconcerting, as you speak of matters of danger that raise the hackles on my neck and make me wish to lock myself in the abbey towers with my work. But you know that I can deny you nothing, brother, and this is no exception, if you need me, I will be there; for you and for the family.

Besides, Prior Henry is naming his sub-prior in the coming months, perhaps bringing him some first hand news of the coming Holy Crusade may sway his decision in a certain direction. I have a few things to take care of here, but can arrive at Westminster for the changing of the season, but must know if I will be required beyond the Autumnal equinox. Let me know as soon as you can brother, and I will see you soon.

Yours in service,
Giles

Brother,

The time that we'll need to spend in Westminster rather depends on the King, but I hear that there's supposed to be a church council in Pipewell on the 16th, so I would guess we'd be through at Westminster before that to give some time for travel. But what's so all-fire important that it might threaten your attendance at the greatest feast of opportunity that's landed on England since the Anarchy?

Yours in bewilderment,
William

We die with the dying:/See, they depart, and we go with them./We are born with the dead:/See, they return, and bring us with them./The moment of the rose and the moment of the yew-tree/Are of equal duration. Dearest William,

You misunderstand my intent, and for my failure in that regard I must apologize. Of course, I am at the beck and call of my Lord Father and our King in all things, I just need know what plans must be rearranged to accommodate this grand opportunity, for even as the Lion roars, so does the world still turn for the vole beneath his notice.

Thankfully, it seems little changes to my schedule must be enacted, and if in fact the timeline proceeds as you indicate, perhaps we may even find a chance to hunt together again as we used to when we were younger. I haven't strung my bow in years, but I'm sure it will be an activity to bring us closer together again, if you can spare the time away from the elbow rubbing with the upper crust.

Your kin,
Giles

PS - Although it appears my bow has been misplaced here at the abbey, if you could bring a spare it would be a great facilitator of our bonding.

Giles,

Spare time from elbow rubbing? Don't fret, I'll bring bows aplenty. And an appetite, for I am told the feast planned will be beyond anything we have seen in England in many years. And the entertainment as well. Marie de France will be there, brother! And some other bards. Lionheart has expressed a desire to see some Morris dancing, but I am sure there will be also be good things to see and do. Won't be long now.

Until then,
William
