Every phrase and every sentence is an end and a beginning,/Every poem an epitaph. And any action/Is a step to the block, to the fire, down the sea's throat/Or to an illegible stone: and that is where we start.
We die with the dying:/See, they depart, and we go with them./We are born with the dead:/See, they return, and bring us with them./The moment of the rose and the moment of the yew-tree/Are of equal duration. A people without history/Is not redeemed from time, for history is a pattern/Of timeless moments. So, while the light fails/On a winter's afternoon, in a secluded chapel/History is now and England

Henry Piast

Post by Henry Piast » Mon Aug 23, 2021 11:49 pm

Henryk Piast is a young Polish noble, heir presumptive to the Duchy of Silesia, currently ruled by his father, Bolesław the Tall. He has recently been married to Hedwig of Andechs, daughter of Berthold IV, Duke of Merania, Prince of the Empire. But his own pedigree is even greater. He is the descendant of Władysław II the Exile, the eldest son of Bolesław III Wrymouth, the last king of Poland before the country's partition into Duchies. His grandmother was Agnes of Babenberg, herself a granddaughter of Emperor Henry IV of the Salians. Through Henry IV's mother, Agnes of Poitou, he's even related to the Dukes of Aquitaine, and so a distant cousin of Eleonor. He has family connections to many other families across the Holy Roman Empire, and his aunt Richeza was even the Empress Consort of Spain.

For now, however, his own fame is in his father's shadow. Bolesław the Tall is larger than life. He had gone on the 2nd Crusade, had felled a famous Milanese knight in a duel, had fought tooth and nail in domestic wars for the senior of the Piast dynasty and then with his own kin over the Duchy od Silesia before he settled and started making that domain prosperous. Now it is commonly known across the Holy Roman Empire that Silesia is the land of gold, and many prospective settlers rush east to seek a better life in those bountiful lands. The Duchy enjoys very good relations with the Archbishopric of Magdeburg, the Cistercians and the Knights Templar. Henryk certainly feels the onus of living up to this heritage and of being prepared to continue his father's work. Perhaps it is in his generation that the Kingdom of Poland shall finally be reinstated under Piasts, and he mirrors the ambition of his scheming kin for that to be in his line. Presently, he only governs one estate in his father's Duchy - Rokitnica, while his uncle Mieszko III Tanglefoot in Racibórz and half-brother Jarosław in Opole, potential rivals to the title, hold greater power.

Currently, he's on a pilgrimage. Known for his piety, bolstered by his young wife's utmost devotion, he is committed to visiting all sanctuaries hosting relics of St. Bartholomew. Having visited Lipari, Rome and Frankfurt, he's now arriving in England to venerate the Saint in Canterbury, but his drive for crusading brings him invariably to the events of London.

He is 21 years old, tall, well-built and strong with the sword. His fair hair, blue eyes and good German make him virtually indistinguishable from the knights of the Holy Roman Empire if not for the black eagle of Silesia always emblazoned on his tunic.

Simon IV de Montfort

Post by Simon IV de Montfort » Tue Aug 24, 2021 12:05 pm

At but the young age of 14, Simon IV de Montfort became Baron Montfort-l’Amaury but one year ago. With no wife, no squires, no siblings, no heirs and a Barony back in Vexin(France), what brings the young Frenchman to this Cornoation?

In truth, Vexin is struggling between England and France. Just as Amaury de Montfort swore his fealty and to his service in Normandy a few days ago, so to does he intend to swear fealty. He is the grandson of Robert Whitehands and, combined with there being many relations within these courts and on his borders, it makes sense for Simon to swear fealty.

But more than that, he has come to prove himself. To God, to King, to Country, and to himself, Simon IV is a but a calf finding his feet who must now defend his world from the shadows that follow the noble life, in comparison to the others at the coronation. While he can certainly stand to learn a lot from his peers, he also stands at the beginning of a trial by fire - one which will determine the fate of his entire realm.

But armed with good looks, a full head of black hair, a voice as iron and the drive to be the best he can under God, he might just make it.

Likely civil garb: Noble clothes, as suits the situation
Likely battle garb: Armour, Shield, Sword, Dagger(backup)

Giles is a good looking young man, slim of build but with a glowing warmth to his smile and gaze, but little is publicly known of 19 year old Giles de Braose, second son of William de Braose. He travels to Westminster with the d'Aubigny convoy and is seen as somewhat of an introverted soul, his head always in a book.

As a non-inheriting son, Giles was sent to the Church, the d'Aubigny always had strong ties with the faith and William de Braose thought this a fine way to follow their ruling family. Giles' intellectual pursuits came to the fore and he learned all he could, about anything he could. He developed a reputation as a linguist and illustrator, translating tomes from one language to another; as a powerful voice in the choir of the Church of St Mary in Abergavenny; and as a healer of the sick and the injured.

Those affiliated with the Catholic Church might know that he is hoping to be appointed as sub-prior to Henry de Abergavenny in the coming months, and a pilgrimage to the great Westminster is not out of character for one hoping to rise to such a position (or higher) at his young age.
d'Aubigny Vassal * Man of the cloth * Glory: 192 * Romantic * Legend of Mercy * Well read *

Andre l'Ecrivain, called Andrea Scriptor in the Learned Tongue, Drym Bwydo in the speech of the west, and Andric Bocere in the speech of the older English, is the younger son of his father, Gilles d’Agnatu, a baron holding Monmouth Castle for the de Clares. He has been raised to be second, to support his fighting elder brother by managing his estates--when the time comes (may it be long in so doing). A heavyset young man, bearded and with large hands, fond of food and drink and books, Andre collects what writings he can, annotates them, and compiles the lot into a store of knowledge he hopes to deploy well on his family's behalf--and that of the incoming king.

Margaret (and do not DARE call me 'maggie', good man, godswounds, that a woman of my station would have to say something like this!) De Beaumont is the youngest daughter of Earl 'Whitehands' Leicster. As is often the case, being the youngest and one of the most beautiful of God's creations has led the young woman to become the apple of her father's eye. She is very smart and industrious, cable of creating nearly anything the menfolk in her family need at need. Is she conceited? Likely, but, as her confessor put it when she confessed to the sin of pride for believing herself beautiful for the fourth straight Sunday, "My lady, it is hard to believe that what you say is true when you are, doubtless, as beautiful as Helen and far more peacable.

She is also an adventurous young woman, riding horses, hawking, and otherwise showing that Saer di Quincy, her husband, is a very lucky man indeed, if he can ever get her with child.

She's rumored to head her father's subtle gentlemen, knowing what her father's house needs to prosper. With Whitehands at the helm and Margaret making sure everything runs properly, the de Beaumont's fortunes are looking up.

Llywelyn is a young man, recently promoted to knighthood, but already the weight of that responsibility has been on his shoulders. His father Iorwerth was a son of Owain Gwynned, the "Prince of Wales", but died when Llywelyn was an infant. In the wake of Owain's death, Llelwyn's uncles have continued to dispute who has the claim to rule, leading to a fractious coalition to the region. With the uncertainty, Llwelyn was raised with the certainty that he would need to manage his immediate family holdings while his uncles warred over Gwynnedd, Dafydd and Rhodri ab Owain each taking one side of the River Conwy.

Though not particularly strong, resilient or deft, Llwleyn has discovered a knack for building partnerships and allies, especially with a few other young Welsh knights. He has answered the call to Richard's coronation, hoping to make his mark, one way or another.

Geoffrey is the second child of a short lived marriage, his father William FitzEmpress and the founder of his house, having died when Geoffrey was only four. It does not get spoken of often but his mother is the matron of the de Blondevilles. Not that anything untoward was involved in it. But the story goes that William died of a broken heart. In the midst of a marriage to a woman that gave him two children. As such, while his mother does care for him, and took care to raise him right, he is a reminder of that loveless political arrangement that she happened to escape at the cost of Geoffrey's father's life. It is complicated.

But that has not slowed down the Baron of Crahen, the lord of Chateau de Guildo, Geoffrey of Tournamine, in the slightest. For his past and relatively distant upbringing he has done quite well for himself. He has significant talent for leading in both war and peace. Though he isn't as taken with the crusades as many others are, he understands why so many are so fervent. He is a devout man of god that has studied with religious tutors. Though there are also rumors that, his happy, smiling, charm and attractive provincial accent, lead him to tend to less proper interactions with the fairer sex than the church might like.
Knight Baron Geoffrey of Crahen, of the house Tournamine * Glory: 1175 * House: de Blondeville * Striking * Flirtatious
Legendary Passion: Energetic * Traits: Red Hair, Bright Eyes, Charming Accent
Clothing: Noble clothing, sword
Battle gear: Chainmail, Shield, Battle Axe, Dagger
Speaks: French, Latin, Occitan

Miriam Yarchi, first of her name.
Miriams Father was a money lender in the court, profiting from the nobles who in return profited from him. After his death this independent minded young woman , now the royal ward in more than one sense was forced to stay at the Angevine court instead of accompanying her father on his travels.
While her father was well they had travelled the breath of the Angevine domain and beyond exposing her to many languages of the Mediterranean and cultures from the moors to the Greeks .
Now bound to England she is not only fighting the cold, but also questions what her future brings for her.

Much like her student, Margaret de Beaumont, Miriam is a classical beauty. Her features are the fairest a Sephardic woman could hope for, gathering her Otherness behind a veil of familiarity. She appears exotic and Latin, in the Roman statue sense, rather than someone at home among the Moors.

Despite her looks and outward assurance, her keen eyes suggest that she knows well the precariousness of her situation. Working for a Great House, she’s safe, but she hates to rely on that sort of patronage, desiring to establish herself in some way in her own right. As a woman of means and being in a limbo state of an outsider she has access to things that other ladies lack, and so she is an outsider between them, and also a messenger.
She is known to debate unseemly so with men of learning and like Héloise is well read, aiding her arguments with Greek and Arabic translations that she did herself, together with works from Paris and Italy.

Her servant is Hannah a teenage girl that she brought with her from one of the travels with to the south , and who clearly bears stronger markings from spain then the older woman, speaking only a halting French.
Jewish Tutor serving the de Beaumonts,
Glory :184, Legendary Suspicious. The heathen girl your priest warned you about.
Scholar and polyglot ,Blood red lips,Chestnut hair, Olive skin
Latin French Occitan Greek Arabic

A cousin to Isabella De Warennes Paul is a mountain of a man with strikingly fair features between his captivating pale eyes and his large body has an impeccable physique that is clear even when clothed. Paul is a warrior first favoring the crushing power of the Mace but like any knight is trained with all manner of warfare. He distinguished himself on the battlefield so much so he has been given a small piece of territory, Lingfield, to watch over and was named a baron.

On the battlefield he is a towering force of nature riding in on his large horse he seems a tower of Valor, a beacon of hope to his allies and a signal of despair for his enemies. Off the battlefield he is quick with a smile and laugh enjoying dancing and playing the lute and if rumors are to believed is a fan of drink and women as well. Regardless of his worldly nature Paul performs his duties well enough there are few consequences besides a few Whispers here and there.

Paul is one who is fast to make friends but also enemies should they disagree with him or how he lives his life. It's too short to judge others for having a good time. But if you want to grab a drink or listen to some music Paul is more than happy to hang out.
